A transition period may occur when switching to a natural shampoo bar. Some users experience heavy, dull, or greasy hair during this interim. Why? Commercial shampoos and conditioners contain detergents and silicones to make hair shiny. It takes time to work built-up residue out of your hair. Meanwhile, your scalp is adjusting its natural oil production.
I have been trying to reduce plastic and waste, so I decided to try this shampoo bar. I have an oily scalp with fine and colored hair, so I need a product that thoroughly cleans the scalp and is still gentle on the ends. Unfortunately, after several tries with this product, I am giving up and switching back to a normal bottle shampoo. Using this bar left my scalp greasy and left a film on the rest of my hair, so it was limp and just felt dirty. I tried using ACV rinse after the shampoo, which the instructions recommended. This helped a little, but did not improve the overall lack of effectiveness of the bar shampoo. My roots were still oily and the rest of the hair felt limp and weighed down. I also noticed that I was losing more hair than usual in the shower using the bar. I understand that not all shampoos work equally well for people with different hair types, but have never had such a bad experience with a shampoo. Very disappointed.
I made the switch from regular shampoo to natural shampoo. I did zero research, but said heck with it and bought some. I am SOOO happy I did! I love this shampoo, and also bought a bar of soap! My hair feels so good, and I love using it! The shampoo bar has definitely cut down my shower time, and it's so easy to use! Will definitely be buying more!
I have been using this bar on my curly hair for about 2 weeks. I like that it does not feel like my hair is being stripped. The bar lathers great and smells good too. I only shampoo my hair a couple times a week, so I believe this bar will last me a long time!
I'm making the lower-waste transition and am trying to find the best bar shampoo for me (affordability/shipping impact/hair performance balance).
Yellow Bird is my second brand and it is taking a longer transition from another bar shampoo than my first bar shampoo from my liquid shamp/cond. Although it lathers very well it doesn't like to be worked through my hair and kind of 'sticks' wherever I apply it, and stays thick and filmy - I'm having to do an ACV rinse every time to prevent looking like I have greasy roots. Since the ACV comes in a plastic bottle, it defeats my reason for transitioning.
The aroma is very strong, and my particular batch was heavy on rosemary (was hoping the grapefruit would be stronger), as someone prone to headaches and smell sensitivity, this particular bar is not one I'd get again even if my hair does eventually like it.
Ultimately, bodies are unique, and I can't say that my experience so far is universal - some people might adjust very well and maybe water chemistry affects it as well. Do be wary about the strength of the aromatics, I am not kidding about those.
